So I am on my way to Dusseldorf, and then onto Bochum. What with the current riots in the UK myself and my wife Sam were somewhat concerned with me just getting to Birmingham airport. What with all the current violence in the city centre of that city, and in Sam's home town of Manchester, it meant that last night we did not sleep much. A 4 am wake up, so I would have plenty of time to get ready and pack any last minute things before the taxi arrived in just over an hour, was not great. The news was showing more new footage of the violence in Manchester, and how London had become relatively quite. The kittens of course were surprised to find that myself and Sam were awake. There had been some rumours of trouble brewing in Leamington. This was not good, and so fortunately some of the rpg group will be available to give Sam some company for the next day and a half. At 5:15 I was waiting outside for the taxi. Guess what? The ass hole didn't show. Queue a fretful 15 minutes or so as I called other taxi companies. I eventually got one to turn up, and at 6:45 I Leamington for the airport. I got to the airport with plenty of time to spare, especially since I had made use of the online check in. So that was me straight through as I had no luggage to check in. Free wifi was made use of and so I was able to chat to Sam and tweet and read more news. Seems the tablet is pretty much the best damn travelling computer ever. I can easily blog, email, tweet, facebook, chat, cache google maps of Bochum, video chat with Sam, and even run my presentation tomorrow from it. Hell I even have Thundercats and The Borgia to watch on this. So part of the flight - and I love flying - involved going directly over Paris on the way to Zurich. I think I spotted the Arc du Triumphe, and possibly Notre Dame. Anyway, not long to Zurich now. I am pretty much dosed up on caffine and have had a croissant, plus Swiss chocolate. Yay for brunch snacks. Expect the blog post to cover my impression of Switzerland from the air.

So Zurich transfer. What a fucking awful part of the journey thus far. First off there was the wait for some elderly people to get off. And then we were bused from the landing point to the terminal transfer. Then came the wait to get off, get through transfer and have my passport checked all over again, and then the rush to get to the right gate. I had the best part of 20 minutes to make it there and all along the way there were people being slow. Slow walking, meandering along the terminal, or simply being fucking retards at security. How can people, after so many years, still fucking not understand the liquid rules. No sir, you fucking chow down your bloody ice cream now or chuck it. FUCK! Yes idiot boy, stop holding up people behind you and get that fucking laptop out stat! So basically I had barely any time to text my wife and say I had go there ok and was boarding the next plane. It seems oblivious idiots are not something unique to dumbass British middle class country types. I hope the Germans have it ingrained in them to walk at a good pace, not meander at oblique lines without looking, and generally are more aware of the people around them. So once more on a plane, now having left Swiss airspace and now heading up to Dusseldorf. More coffee, a nice sandwich, and more Swiss chocolate, and a seat all by my own where I can see the rear of the wing and how it all works. Right time to chill and finish watching Thundercats. HO!

Dusseldorf airport is all kinds of near future cool. It has a monorail. More like the Gotham City ones in 'Batman Begins'. Underslung and fast. Compare that to the trams of Manchester, which are still quite slow, I guess more so if you have rioters to go past. The airport and train station have been easy to negotiate and the train is cheap. I will be transfering at Essen. The trains are fortunately very much like the ones in Italy. Wide and double decker. Hopefully will get to Bochum in 40 minutes in total.
