London Conference: Days 1 + 2

So arriving in Euston it was then trekking off to my accomodation in Highgate to dump my gear before heading to the Royal Holloway College. So onto the tube it was and then the train. Not much of a hassle other than getting from Egham to the college. It's a bit of a trek so taxis it has been the yesterday. Today I just walked it.

Needless to say the college looks great.  The Royal Holloway looks great. However the building does look older than it is. In fact the building is younger than UMIST. So after the initial reception (where I'm obviously the youngest, though I guess the white hair helps with fitting in :P ), it was some free wine and then back to Highgate.

I was not impressed waiting around for my keys and room as I really needed a shower. :(

Oh and I really wish I knew I didn't need to bring a sleeping bag. Would have saved me the effort. Oh well.

So today was a 5am start, arriving just in time for breakfast. Oh yeah they actually do proper food unlike the shite I've had at previous conferences.

The presentations so far are very heavy on the quantum mechanics, most way beyond my comprehension. Most dabble in modifying the programs that I simply use. However it's nice to see where the state of art is at so that it may in the future be useful to my sort of work.

The rest of the evening is dinner and then the poster presentation, which I'll have to leave early if I want to get back to my halls to get some sleep.

Caffine has been my friend. Good old Guarana!!!

Pictures are taken and so will be uploaded when I get back. Also Windsor Castle on Sunday which should be fun.

Maybe I will have some comments on some of the presentations where the presentor is a) not crap b) doing work more related to my field.

Off to London

Heading off to London this morning for my conference.

I'll see you all again after Thursday unless you happened to be in London, in which case I'll have some time Wednesday afternoon.

Until then...

Infesting

So again a while since the last update.... what to say?

Well two weekends ago was the science and industry museum with m'lady . However the evening before was hellish.

I, a fool, ordered wine without stating 'glass'. Thus I got a whole bottle to my self as part of the meal we were having in Croma. Top that off with tiramisu and well... you have two very groggy kids trying to get home. However some phantom of the opera later meant we were nicely asleep.

Then the museum, with m'lady taking lots of pictures. It was great to look at all the engines and vehicles.

However I had a dislike of all the Dr Who children running around. Not good for a hungover, tiramisu filled geek. Not good at all!!!

Then of last weekend was a nice night in, the calm before the storm of Infest, and then an excursion on the Saturday to the gallery, to see Kylie's clothes, and for my sake, lots of awesome artwork of greek tales, biblical stories, historical scene from the crimean and knights, weapons and some cool Japanese pottery.

The evening was pleasantly spent at Luke and Mich's, pestering their cats and hedgehog. We did plan to use the telescope however the weather always defeats us.

Tomorrow evening I pack ready for infest.

Investigations......

An update:

Well last week was all the fun of being published plus getting acknowledged in another paper. All good fun.

This led to an interesting Friday where I came up with a new method for our neural networks and much fun with my dearest . We headed round to 's place to meet up with the others and sat down to watch 'The Good Shepard'. It was long, interesting, really long, coma inducing and long.

Saturday was much mooching in town and being generally out of place in Harvey Nicholas and Selfridges.

That Saturday evening was then a typical TV21 drinking session followed by more madness.

Sunday I died.

As for the rest of the month 'Everything' is booked for Infest, Whitby just needs train tickets bought for, London is all sorted for the conference and plans are in motion for Venice.

Face Book sucks today.

For some unknown reason my account has just gone into weird reset strange mode.

The Asymptotic Behavior of the Dipole and Quadrupole Moment of Single Water Molecule from Gas Phase to Large Clusters: a QCT Analysis.

CM Handley and PLA Popelier*

Abstract

Water undergoes important electrostatic changes within clusters and the liquid phase, in particular the enhancement of the dipole moment of a central water molecule. We systematically investigate the effect increasing cluster size (up to 21-mer) has on the dipole, and quadrupole moments of a water molecule located at the centre of a cluster. Using hundreds of clusters, sampled from a Molecular Dynamics simulation, molecular multipole moments are reconstructed from the atomic multipole moments. These atomic multipole moments are obtained by Quantum Chemical Topology (QCT) from the ab initio electron densities of water clusters, calculated at three levels of theory, viz. B3LYP/6-311+G(2d,p), B3LYP/aug-cc-pVTZ and MP2/6-311+G(2d,p). There is a substantial increase in the average dipole moment with increasing cluster size, with asymptotic behavior emerging.

Any questions on this stuff just say guys.... I'm sure a lot of you are thinking 'Just why the fuck bother?' and a good question that would be.

Einstein... funny guy!

On this day in :

1931 - Einstein urges all scientists to refuse military work.
1939 - Albert Einstein and Leó Szilárd write a letter to Franklin D. Roosevelt urging him to begin the Manhattan project to develop a nuclear weapon.

Maybe it has something to do with this guy. On the same day in :

1934 - Gleichschaltung: Adolf Hitler becomes Führer of Germany.

Published!!

About time for an update... loads to say.

From the top since last post. Transformers rocked. Fuck you all if you didn't like it! Complaints I have seen are pathetic. You see yes you 'have' to have humans in it for empathy sake of those who aren't fangeeks of the toys. Also Megatron being a space jet.... so what... plot wise it makes sense rather than some piddling little fucktard gun. Also product placement too some degree makes the world 'real'. Yes your nokia or ipod may just get up and rip your face off.

Overall I loved the film. Best thing of it's type in the cinema for ages. Kinda like seeing the matrix or Jurassic Park for the first time.

No I won't be reading Harry Potter.

Train tickets in place for Infest, a B&B is booked for Whitby so all is good. Other than that I had my second year viva which was good all except me fucking up one basic question. ARRRRAAAAGHGHGHGAAAGHAGAHAG!!!!!

Also my paper has been accepted. Just got a few corrections and so forth to do. But well taken by the referees.

Now after all that ranting I must be able to find something interesting to post up as a picture???
